Reflections and blessings from some of our families…

“The love of Jesus shines ever so brightly at St John Preschool in Mansfield!  My husband and I are both in Education, at the high school level, and I truly don’t know how we would have raised our kiddos to where they are today without our St John family.  Our two children attended preschool from the time XTRA care opened in the mornings to when it ended in the afternoons.  Whether we were having good or bad days, the St John staff loved us as their own and we still keep in close contact with many of them today.  When our kids started kindergarten in the public school system, both were so well prepared and excelled in all areas.  Our son has an August birthday, but with the help of St John, we decided to go ahead and start kindergarten as a very young 5 year-old. He did so well in kinder and is now progressing in second grade.  Both of our children are very social and get along well with all of their classmates.  Our daughter is in third grade now and her teachers have shared many stories of how she helps the struggling students.  I know this is attributable to the great care and loving instruction they were given at St John.  St John Preschool not only teaches educational skills, but also the most important lessons of how we can be better examples and share Jesus’ love with others!”

-Kristi and Lane Canon

“There are so many words that I can share about my wonderful experience with my St. John family. Yes, I say family because although my daughter is now a 2nd grader, the foundation she received at St. John was a tremendous influence. She has superseded her teacher’s expectations and is so well rounded. Of all the awards and accolades she has received, her character recognition near and dear to our hearts. As a recipient of the Superintendent’s STAR student award, we as parent’s beam with pride.  It is a testament to how St. John shapes the whole child. We all want the best for our children. The relationship building and nurturing environment they provide is priceless. We remain connected to our St. John family and truly believe this relationship is one that will last a life time. I can’t say thank you enough to all of the wonderful faculty and staff. We love you and God’s blessings continue to manifest in your lives.”

-Nisha Marshall

“Our family highly recommends St. John Preschool!  We appreciated all the help they gave our family during our daughter's last two years of pre-school. Their commitment to helping children not only thrive academically, but to love school speaks to their calling as educators. Their patience and understanding, and most of all, ability to listen to and value our family's thoughts and feelings had a deep impact. We believe St. John is a wonderful and inspiring example of Christ's love to both students and their families!”

-Jon and Margaret Thomas

“Over the past 5 years, my three children have each attended the Pre-K class on Tuesdays/Thursdays at St. John Lutheran Preschool in order to gain the experience of a school environment the year before starting Kindergarten. The administrative staff, teachers, and pastors at St. John make each and every child feel special and loved while providing them with the skills needed as they make the transition from preschool to "big" school. The genuine love they have for investing in the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual health of the children is exactly what I as a parent want for my children. Each of my children had the privilege of being with the same teacher in their Pre-K class. Ms. Angela taught them so many valuable skills, and they were more than prepared for Kindergarten because of the incredible early childhood curriculum St. John uses. They have also seen that learning is fun! The transition to elementary school has been so easy because of the strong academic foundation they have received. St. John also has fun programs, activities, and more for the whole family! Even though my family attends a different local church, we are always participating in other events at St. John (like Vacation Bible School, Christmas programs, Easter programs, etc.) throughout the year and even during the years none of our children have been enrolled. That's how much we love the people at St. John and how much they share the love of Jesus Christ with the community! Ms. Nannette and all the staff at St. John do everything with excellence and with love. As a parent, you are entrusting your greatest blessings to the staff at St. John, and you will not be disappointed in the loving care and guidance your children will receive.”

-Stacy Adjei

“Finding a preschool for your child is not an easy feat. We heard about St. John through word of mouth 8 years ago. We put both of our children through St. John and honestly loved every minute of it. Every single person who works there, from the director to the custodian, loved our children and we knew it. These relationships have continued even though our children are in public school now. Their educational growth and development were astounding. The teachers work so hard to ensure the kids are prepared for kindergarten. Both of our kids were able to read at a kindergarten level when they left St. John. This amazing school is one I highly recommend if you are looking for love and education for your children.”

About the Preschool

St. John Lutheran Preschool is the place where a strong foundation is built upon the cornerstone, Jesus Christ. It is a place where transitions can occur in a nurturing environment. We assist parents in the education of their children, providing age-appropriate activities for academic, social, emotional, physical and spiritual development. Our goal is to bring young children into a relationship with a God who loves them unconditionally and who desires them to be all He created them to be.
Christian teachers share knowledge with young children but they also model Christian living in the process of nurturing and loving them. The children also enjoy the arts and technology.

We would love to visit with you and be part of the educational foundation for your young child.

Parenting Tips

Are You a Celebratory Parent?

In the book "The Parent You Want to Be," Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott share some great thoughts about being celebratory parents. Please allow me to share some of their thoughts with you with a few of my own thrown in!

When you grew up, what events were big deals? What rituals did you cherish? Were milestones important? How much did your family celebrate both big and little victories and events? Every celebratory parent knows the value of commemorating milestones.

The one who celebrates, according to the dictionary, "shows happiness that something good or special has happened." Celebratory parents plan special times to celebrate when good things happen. We want to validate and cement these times in our memories.

By celebrating our kid's milestones we say to them that they are important, we are tuned in to them, and we are delighted and excited when good and special things happen to them.

Celebratory parents set aside their tasks at times in order to celebrate with their children.

Celebratory parents maximize a surprise—really milk it!

Celebratory parents record their child's experiences through journals, photos, keepsakes or whatever makes the child see the memory in a tangible way.

Celebratory parents underscore accomplishments—not just the huge ones, but small steps too.

"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate."
Oprah Winfrey

"While we are living in the present, we must celebrate life every day, knowing that we are becoming history with every work, every action, every deed."
Mattie Stepanek

So, think of the events that were celebrated in your life. If your parents weren't celebratory parents, then become that for your children. Ritual and celebration are important stepping stones in a life that feels appreciated and significant. Enjoy and celebrate!
